What are we learning?

Word Work

1st Grade Words – try, best, ten

Kindergarten Review Words – what, when, get

We will also be working with words with the long I sound (igh, ie, and y)

Reading

This week in reading we are working on retelling important events from our story in the order they happened. Students need to include the setting, important character’s names, important events from the beginning, middle, and end of the story, as well as a resolution to the problem.

Writing

We are continuing to improve our writing by using colorful words and language to help our readers visualize our stories. We will spend the week discussing interesting words to make our writing more interesting.

Math

Thank you for continuous support in helping your child complete his or her math homework packet!  As we continue our math rotations, we will be discussing how we can count on to add three to a problem, We will also work on using the counting on strategy to solve missing numbers, starting at the smaller number and counting on to the total.

Social Studies

As we begin a New Year, we will take some time this week to review expectations and our 7 Habits. We will discuss how we can continue to be leaders through the rest of the year and set personal and school goals.
