Writing
In writing
we are beginning our study on non-fiction text. We will read non-fiction
stories and practice writing topic statements and details about the book. We
will also begin exploring ABC books in preparation to write our own class ABC
book.
Math
We will
begin the week with our shapes museum. Make sure to have your child bring
objects from home for the museum. Their objects should represent a shape and
should not be valuable or breakable, but they will bring them back. We will
begin learning about three dimensional shapes next week and discuss symmetry.
Reading
In reading, we will continue our study about asking questions before, during, and after we read. We will talk specifically about the difference between “thick” and “thin” questions. A thick question is something that keeps you thinking for a while, while a thin question is usually quick and easy to answer. We will work next week to ask thicker questions that allow us to think deeply about what we are reading.

Studies
We have
completed our introduction into the 7 Habits of Happy Kids. We will continue to
discuss, review, and practice these habits in our community throughout the
year.
Science
This week
we are beginning our first science unit. This unit will help us develop our
science expectations that we will use throughout the year. We will discuss our
science notebooks and how we can think, talk, and act like scientists. We will
also begin practicing our observation skills.
